Lavender Essential Oils

Lavender oil is an essential oil acquired by distillation from the flower spikes of certain varieties of lavender. There are two forms of lavender essential oils: lavender flower oil, a colorless oil, insoluble in water; and lavender spike oil, a distillate from the aromatic plant Lavandula latifolia. One type of oil is made from the flowers of the plant, the other from the spikes of the plant. The oil is extracted mostly from the flowers of the lavender plant, using the method of steam distillation.
