Massage Essential Oils Add Aromatherapy
When you get a massage, no doubt the massage therapist didn’t rub your skin dry. They typically use some type of oil of lotion so their hands can glide across the skin. And if they used aromatherapy in combination with your massage, there is a good chance they used massage essential oils. These oils are simply a massage carrier oil or base mixed with some flavor of essential oil. The essential oil is chosen for its healing quality at the discretion of the massage therapist.
Essential Oils Used For Massage
Depending upon your particular situation, your massage therapist will decide which essential oil to add to your massage oil. Some common oils include lavender oil for relaxing muscles, ylang-ylang essential oil for soothing muscles, and any type of mint essential oil to invigorate sore muscles.

Lavender essential oil has none relaxation properties. So, when it is combined with a massage oil base, it has a relaxing effect on the mind and muscles. Since it is aromatic, your brain sends a signal to your muscles to relax during your massage. This powerful aromatherapy combined with traditional massage, enhances your healing. Ylang-ylang essential oil has a similar aromatherapy effect on the mind and muscles. Ylang-ylang oil combined into massage essential oils helps your muscles relax which allows the massage therapist to work deeper for a more therapeutic effect. Buying Massage Essential Oils While you can purchase pre-blended massage oils combined with essential oils, it is usually better to buy the essential oils separately from the base massage oil. If you purchase pre-mixed massage oil, it will need to be used rather quickly soon the oils don’t turn rancid. This may mean that some expensive essential oils will be wasted. But by purchasing your essential oils apart from your massage oil, you can keep them refrigerated. |
